How to Sort a Pivot Table in Google Sheets
To sort a pivot table in Google Sheets, follow these steps:
- Open your Google Sheet containing the pivot table you'd like to sort.
- Click on any cell within the pivot table to activate the Pivot Table Editor on the right side of the screen.
- In the Pivot Table Editor, locate the "Rows" or "Columns" section, depending on which field you'd like to sort.
- Click on the dropdown arrow next to the field you'd like to sort.
- Choose "Sort A-Z" to sort the data in ascending order, or "Sort Z-A" to sort the data in descending order.
Example
Let's assume you have a dataset containing sales data, and you've created a pivot table to analyze the total sales by product category and month. You'd like to sort the pivot table by the total sales in descending order.
- Click on any cell within the pivot table to activate the Pivot Table Editor.
- In the Pivot Table Editor, locate the "Rows" section, which contains the "Product Category" field.
- Click on the dropdown arrow next to "Product Category."
- Choose "Sort Z-A" to sort the product categories by total sales in descending order.
