How to Filter for Cells that Contain Text in Google Sheets

To filter for cells that contain specific text in Google Sheets, follow these steps:

  1. Select the range of cells or the entire column that you want to apply the filter to.
  2. Click on the "Data" menu in the Google Sheets toolbar.
  3. Select "Create a filter" or click the funnel icon in the toolbar. This will add a filter icon to each header in the selected range.
  4. Click on the filter icon in the header of the column that you want to filter by text.
  5. Choose "Filter by condition."
  6. In the dropdown menu, select "Text contains."
  7. Enter the text you want to filter by in the box that appears.
  8. Click "OK" to apply the filter. Only the rows that contain the specified text in the selected column will be displayed.

Example

Let's say you have a list of tasks with their priorities and you want to filter for tasks that contain the word "meeting".

  1. Select the range of cells or the entire column containing the tasks.
  2. Click on the "Data" menu in the Google Sheets toolbar.
