How to Multiply Column by a Percentage in Excel

To multiply a column by a percentage in Excel, you can use a simple formula. Follow these steps to multiply a column by a percentage:

  1. Open your Excel workbook and navigate to the sheet with the data you want to multiply by a percentage.
  2. Ensure that your data is in a column with no empty cells. For this example, let's assume the data is in column A, and you want to multiply it by 20%.
  3. In an empty cell, enter the percentage that you want to multiply the column by, and format it as a percentage. In this example, enter "20%" in cell B1, and press Enter.
  4. Click on cell B1, and then press Ctrl + C to copy the percentage.
  5. Click on the first cell of the column where you want to store the results. For this example, let's use column C.
  6. Press Ctrl + Shift + Down Arrow to select all the cells in the column down to the last cell with data.
  7. Right-click on the selected cells, and choose "Paste Special" from the context menu.
  8. In the Paste Special dialog box, select "Multiply" under the "Operation" section and click "OK". This will multiply the values in column A by the percentage in cell B1 and display the results in column C.

Example

Let's assume we have the following data in column A:

A
1 100
2 200
3 300
4 400
5 500

We want to multiply this data by 20%. Follow the steps mentioned above:

  1. Enter "20%" in cell B1.
  2. Copy cell B1.
  3. Click on cell C1.
  4. Press Ctrl + Shift + Down Arrow to select cells C1 to C5.
  5. Right-click on the selected cells, and choose "Paste Special".
  6. In the Paste Special dialog box, select "Multiply" and click "OK".

After completing these steps, the results in column C will be:

C
1 20
2 40
3 60
4 80
5 100

These values are the result of multiplying the original data in column A by 20%.
