How to Filter Multiple Columns in Excel

Filtering multiple columns in Excel can be done using the built-in filter functionality, which allows you to filter data based on specific criteria, such as text, numbers, or dates. Here are the steps to filter multiple columns in Excel:

  1. Open your Excel workbook and select the data that you want to filter. Make sure that your data is organized in a tabular format with headers.
  2. Click on the "Home" tab in the Excel ribbon.
  3. In the "Editing" group, click on "Sort & Filter" and then click on "Filter." This will add filter arrows to the header row of your data.
  4. Click on the filter arrow in the first column that you want to filter. A drop-down menu will appear with various filtering options.
  5. Choose the filtering criteria for the first column. For example, you can choose to filter by a specific text, number, or date, or you can use custom filtering criteria.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other columns that you want to filter.
  7. Your data will now be filtered based on the criteria you set for each column. To clear the filters and display all data, click on the "Sort & Filter" button in the "Editing" group of the "Home" tab and choose "Clear."

Example

Let's consider an example dataset with the following columns: "Product," "Category," "Price," and "Quantity Sold."

  1. Select the data range, including the header row.
  2. Go to the "Home" tab, click on "Sort & Filter," and choose "Filter." Filter arrows will be added to the header row.
  3. Click on the filter arrow in the "Category" column and choose the category you want to filter by, e.g., "Electronics."
  4. Click on the filter arrow in the "Price" column, select "Number Filters," and choose a filtering criterion, e.g., "Greater than or equal to." In the box that appears, enter a value, such as 100.
  5. The data will now be filtered to display only the rows with the "Category" as "Electronics" and "Price" greater than or equal to 100.

Remember that you can always clear the filters by going to the "Home" tab, clicking on "Sort & Filter," and selecting "Clear."
