How to AutoFill Dates in Excel

To AutoFill dates in Excel, you can use the AutoFill feature, which allows you to quickly fill a range of cells with a series of dates or other types of data. Here's how to AutoFill dates in Excel:

  1. Open Excel and create a new worksheet or open an existing one.
  2. Enter the first date in a cell (e.g., A1).
  3. Click on the cell containing the date to select it. You should see a small square in the bottom-right corner of the selected cell called the "fill handle."
  4. Move your cursor over the fill handle until it turns into a black plus sign (+).
  5. Click and hold the left mouse button on the fill handle, then drag it across the range of cells you want to fill with the series of dates. As you drag, Excel will show a preview of the dates it will fill.
  6. Release the mouse button to fill the selected range of cells with the dates.

By default, Excel will fill the cells with a series of dates incremented by one day. If you want to fill the dates with a different increment, follow these additional steps:

  1. After you complete step 5 from the previous section, right-click on the fill handle.
  2. Drag the fill handle across the range of cells you want to fill, but this time, do not release the mouse button.
  3. Release the right mouse button to open the AutoFill Options menu.
  4. Choose "Series" from the context menu.
  5. In the "Series" dialog box, select "Date" in the "Type" section.
  6. Choose the desired date unit from the "Date unit" section (e.g., Day, Weekday, Month, or Year).
  7. Enter the desired increment in the "Step value" box. For example, if you want to fill the cells with a series of dates incremented by 7 days, enter "7."
  8. Click "OK" to fill the selected range of cells with the series of dates based on your specified increment.
